5. Why should people vote for you instead of Congressman Ed Case?
First, because I share and respect the values of Hawaii's people and will stand up to defend those values.
For example, federal judges are on the verge of overturning Hawaii's constitutional amendment protecting traditional marriage. I will stand up to stop this from happening, whereas my opponent actually wants the federal courts to overturn our constitutional amendment. My opponent actually wants same-sex marriage to be legal here in Hawaii. He wants the decision of the people of Hawaii to be overturned.
My opponent has also voted twice against a ban on partial birth abortion.
In other words, a vote for my opponent is a vote for same-sex marriage and a vote for partial birth abortion.
Second, I'll be effective. There are so many areas in which the people of Hawaii urgently need help-be it education, transportation, crime, housing, and more. We deserve a representative who will actually be effective. If you look at my opponent's record, you will see he has done a lot of advocating but very little achieving. The people of Hawaii need our representative to actually achieve something. The problems and issues we face are real. Our representative needs to be an effective advocate.
I am a proven leader. I have no doubt that as a member of the Majority Party in Congress, I'll be able to be an effective advocate for our schools, our seniors and our veterans. I'll be an effective advocate for small business. I'll be an effective advocate for reducing the budget deficit, cutting spending, and tax reform, etc.
I'll also be effective because of my experience.
As a councilman, I understand the needs and the workings of our counties. My well-rounded experience in the private sector and in small business, in the Legislature as a community advocate, and in county government allows me to truly understand and effectively resolve issues of concern to the people of Maui and the rest of Hawaii.
As the son of a career military man and as the father of a daughter who is volunteering to risk her life in the service of our country in the war against terrorism, I bring a personal perspective and understanding to the issues of war and national security.
As the father of five and a husband of 35 years, I appreciate the struggle that Maui's families face raising our children, maintaining our families, and caring for our seniors. |
