Aloha!
After a grueling campaign of knocking on doors, sign-waving,
and spending hours on the
phone, I’m honored to have been chosen by voters in Senate
District 19 (Waikele, Village Park, Royal Kunia, Makakilo, Kapolei,
Kalaeloa, Honokai Hale and portions of Waipahu and Ko Olina)
to serve in the State Senate.
I received 56% of the vote. I commend my opponent, retired
police captain George Yamamoto, for running a clean and honest
campaign. I look forward to working with him in his capacity
as a Kapolei/Makakilo/Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board member.
I appreciated hearing about the issues that are important to
you and your family while going door to door in the district.
I have heard loudly and clearly that traffic, education, and
crime are the issues that are most important to you.
These will be some of my top priorities as I begin my four-year
term. I took office on November 8th and am busy hiring my staff
and getting set up, so that I can serve you to the best of my
ability. I was pleased that my Republican colleagues in the
State Senate elected me as their Minority Policy Leader.
During the coming weeks, I’ll find out which Senate
committees I’ll be assigned to. Please remember that my
door is always open to everyone in the district. I also extend
this invitation to the 5,461 people who voted for my opponent
and the 273 people that left their ballots blank.
I hope to see you at the Opening Day Ceremony of the State
Legislature on Wednesday, January 17th at the Capitol. It’s
a tradition for legislators to host community members and serve
refreshments. You’ll have the opportunity to taste every
cuisine imaginable from the 76 offices of the different legislators
from around the State.
It would be great if you could come, so that I can show you
my office, introduce you to my staff, and of course offer you
lunch! I will be holding a community talk-story each month in
the district to hear from you on what kinds of things should
be done to improve our quality of life.
I’ll keep you posted on the location and times of the
meetings.
Please keep in touch and let me know if you have any concerns,
if there is legislation that you would like to see introduced,
or if you just want to talk story.
I’m located on the second floor of the State Capitol
in Room 204.
My phone number is 586-6830 and email is sengabbard@Capitol.hawaii.gov.
Finally, I want to say a big mahalo nui loa to all of you who
placed your vote of confidence in me. I promise to do my best
and look forward to serving you in the coming years.
Ke Akua me ke Aloha (God bless you).
