| Aloha,
I hope you and your family are in good health. Here are a few
things I'd like to share with you:
Funding Released for Improvements to Kapolei High School
I was very pleased to learn that Governor Lingle announced on
August 6th that she has released $4,797,000 in funding for improvements
to the athletic facilities at Kapolei High School. The funds
will go toward constructing and equipping the announcer’s
booth, bleachers, concession stands, and restrooms. Construction
on the project is scheduled to begin in January, 2008 and will
hopefully be completed by March, 2009. I plan to work with the
Governor, my colleagues at the Legislature, and Principal Al
Nagasako to ensure that we get additional funding which is needed
to complete the athletic complex.
Kalaeloa Beautification Project a Success
My staff lent a hand at the Kalaeloa Entry-Way Beautification
project on July 18th. Over 50 volunteers, led by the Hawaii
Community Development Authority (HCDA) and members of the Kalaeloa
Community Network (community members, area businesses, landowners,
elected officials, and service providers) helped out. The volunteers
assisted with landscaping, removing graffiti, painting, and
the installation of new signage. I want to thank everyone who
donated their time and efforts to make Kalaeloa a nicer place
to live and work. To learn more about HCDA's beautification
efforts in Kalaeloa, check out this link: http://hcdaweb.org/kalaeloa-entry-way-beautification-project
Honoring International Students
I presented honorary certificates to the 24 international students
of the Hawaii Lions International Youth Camp at a farewell dinner
at the Oahu Veterans Center on July 28th. The students were
part of a four-week camp which promotes international understanding
and goodwill between the nations of the world. Makakilo residents
Don and Beth McGee have opened up their home to these students
for the last 10 years. This year they hosted Marlene Seelmaier
of Austria and Uyanga Altangerel of Mongolia. This is a great
Lions Club program, which benefits both the students who come
here and the people of our state.
Listen-Story
My next listen-story will be held at the Waikele Elementary
School cafeteria on Saturday, September 15th at 9am. Please
come. If you can't, call or email your concerns.
Please contact me if I can help you in any way. My phone number
is 586-6830 and email is sengabbard@capitol.hawaii.gov.
Mahalo for the privilege of serving you!
