Lawmakers to hold briefing on Kona low impacts to agriculture

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A joint informational briefing will be held by state lawmakers to discuss the agricultural impacts of the March 2026 Kona low storms.

The briefing is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Hawaii State Capitol.

The session will be co-hosted by Sen. Mike Gabbard, Sen. Chris Lee, Rep. Cory Chun and Rep. Nicole Lowen.

Officials said the meeting will provide an overview of storm damage to farming communities, urgent needs for farmers and ranchers, and updates on state and federal recovery efforts.

Presenters are expected from the Hawaii Farm Bureau, Hawaii Farmers Union, Board of Agriculture and Biosecurity, Synergistic Hawaii Agriculture Council, Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council and Hawaii Foodbank.

Discussion will cover statewide damage assessments, livestock needs, food access concerns, and possible policy or funding actions to support agricultural recovery and long-term resilience, followed by a Q&A session.

The meeting will also be livestreamed on YouTube.
